This beautiful 2006 Yamaha M500 is a terrific choice for a family, student, or recreational pianist looking for a high-quality acoustic piano in a compact and attractive cabinet.
At 44.5 inches tall, the M500 is larger and more substantial than many traditional console pianos, giving it a fuller, more satisfying sound while still fitting comfortably into most homes. It has the clear, balanced tone and smooth, responsive touch Yamaha pianos are known for, with a surprisingly strong bass for an instrument of this size.
This M500 was built in the USA at Yamaha’s piano factory in Thomaston, Georgia. As a piano technician, I have consistently found the quality of these American-made Yamahas to be especially good, and I generally prefer them to the later versions of these instruments produced after Yamaha moved production overseas.
There is also a real advantage to a well-maintained piano of this age. It has had time to settle and stabilize, and after being professionally regulated, tuned, and voiced, it should provide excellent stability in both touch and tuning.
One feature I especially like on this model is the easily removable front panel. A pair of conveniently located latches allows the panel to come off without screws or tools, opening up the sound and giving the player a much more intimate connection with the hammers and strings. It’s a fun way to both hear and experience the piano from the inside.
And this particular piano has seen remarkably little use. With the front removed, the action and internal parts show almost no visible wear—they look exceptionally clean and close to new.
